| Name Grace Werle Graduation Year 2022 High School Saint John Paul ll Academy Position Defender/Mid College Choice Winthrop University Why did you choose this college? I loved where it was located and how it was 30 minutes from Charlotte. I also loved the coaches and the team. I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else. What Advice Would You Give Those Starting the Recruiting Process? I would tell them to never give up because if they want to play in college there is a place for them. Another thing I would say is that the process is hard and may even want to make you cry, but if you keep working your butt off you can achieve that dream. Who Would You Like to Thank for Getting You to Here? I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches because without them pushing me I would not be where I am today. I would especially like to thank my mom because she helped make this dream reality. What are your first memories of the sport? My first memory is when I picked up the stick my freshman year of high school. I had never even heard of lacrosse, but I knew that I was gonna tryout and go to conditioning. At conditioning they told us to do partner passing and I was quite confused, so my friend and I watched the older girls for a few minutes and then started doing it. We had no idea how to pass or catch, but we knew we wanted to get better. What is Your Favorite Memory From Your High School Career? My favorite memory is definitely scoring against American Heritage Delray. It was my travel coaches team and they are one of the best teams in Florida. I remember checking the ball out of the girls stick and running it down the field to score the first goal of the season for SJPII. It was one of those moments you will never forget. What is Your Stick Brand? And Why? STX Crux 10 degree. It is by far my favorite stick because it is so light and it feels like nothing is in your hands. It also gives you the feeling that you are running faster because the stick isn’t dragging you down. Which Lacrosse Player Do You Most Want to Have a Meal With and Why? I would for sure wanna have a meal with Sam Swart. She is one of my favorite lacrosse players because she always gives 110% in games, and it shows. Sam seems like a really down to earth person and someone who is always there to make you laugh. Do You Watch College & Pro Games and What Are You Watching for to Make You a Better Player? I love watching college games, not just because I get to see some of my teammates, but I am able to see how different teams work together. I also enjoy watching how they shoot, dodge, and their footwork. When I see someone do something pretty impressive, it encourages me to try it myself and see how well I can do it. What’s Your Go-To Meal After a Game? I don’t really have a go to meal after games. I usually just eat whatever my parents or friends hand me. Most of the time they give me granola bars, sandwiches, and maybe even a stop for Chipotle. What’s the One Thing Your Teammates Would be Surprised to Know About You? Something they may not know about me is that I love watching sports, especially basketball and football. I love cheering on the teams, and sometimes even making a call before the refs do. No matter who the team is, I will watch it!
