Spartans Slay Knights as #3 Tampa Men take the 20-4 Win over Lynn; Milani/Miller Combine for 11G, Poma/Hoke 24 for 27 FOs – Both Recaps

Tampa Conquers Fighting Knights in Senior Day Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. – No.3 Tampa earns it’s fifth conference win on senior day against Lynn.

The game would begin with Conley Stone netting an early shot off the opening faceoff, pressuring the Fighting Knights’ defense early. On the next possession, Owen Miller opened the scoring off a pass from Charlie BoleshAndrew Milani would go on to net one with an assist from freshman Zack Friend. The Spartans would go up three goals behind Canyon Birch‘s tally, causing the Fighting Knights to call a timeout just two minutes into the game. Milani netted his second of the game, with Bolesh netting one of his own soon after to build Tampa’s lead to five. Lynn got on the board with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Spartans would head into the second 15 minutes with a 5-1 lead.

The second quarter began with Miller being the first to score once again. Milani finished off his hat trick early in the quarter, building the Tampa lead to six. Tampa would continue to score, with Miller finishing off his hat trick and Jackson Bashaw netting one from Birch. The Tampa offense would continue to explode, sending them into the half with a 10-goal lead.

The second half began with the Fighting Knights getting one back early, cutting the Spartans’ lead to nine. Milani would respond soon after, netting his fifth of the game. Alex Poma would go on to win the face-off right after, netting a goal of his own building Tampa’s lead to eleven. The Spartans would go on to net five consecutive goals, to head into the final 15 minutes with a 16 goal lead.

The final 15 minutes began with Evan Gibbs netting one off an assist from Gavin Bomstad. The Fighting Knights would net back-to-back goals to spark the bench. Aaron Cho would net a late goal for Tampa, earning Tampa their fifth conference win.

Stat of the Game – Andrew Milani recorded a game leading seven goals.

Lynn men lose at No. 3 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Lynn University men’s lacrosse team suffered a 20-4 loss at No. 3 ranked Tampa, Saturday. The Fighting Knights are now 3-9 this season and 0-5 in the SSC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– The Spartans outshot Lynn 53-30 and won 24-of-27 faceoffs
– The hosts also held a 49-22 edge in ground balls
– Sophomore Jackson Cutter scored the final goal of the opening quarter with 2:20 left for Lynn’s first goal that brought the score to 5-1
– The Spartans scored six goals in the second quarter for an 11-1 lead at halftime
– Graduate Joseph Michalski scored off a pass from junior Matthew Canedo for the first goal of the second half
– Tampa answered with eight-straight goals for a 19-2 lead early in the fourth quarter
– Graduate student Brian Hoskins scored a man-up goal with 11:46 showing in the final frame that trimmed the deficit to 19-3
– Sophomore Connor Zombro was credited with an assist on Hoskins’ goal
– The Fighting Knights’ final goal came with 9:35 to play when senior Connor Koppelman further trimmed the deficit to 19-4
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
– Hoskins scored one goal on six shots to go along with one ground ball and a caused turnover
– Canedo finished with an assist and four ground balls
– Cutter scored once with two ground balls and was 1-of-2 at the X
– Sophomore keeper Tristan Lenard notched 12 saves in 45 minutes of action
