by Brad Seitz, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team played their last game of the season today against Florida Southern. The Sailfish couldn’t hold up against the No. 11 ranked Moccasins as they fell 22-3.

The Sailfish fell behind quickly against a talented Mocs side. Despite heavily winning the draw control battle early on, the Sailfish couldn’t take advantage of their possession opportunities as they committed eleven turnovers in the first quarter. The ‘Fish were outshot by Florida Southern 12-2 in the first quarter as the Sailfish trailed 8-1 after the first quarter. The lone Sailfish goal came from Kaelin DeNeui who found the back of the net for the seventh time this season.

Ella Howlin and Hunter Levinson each scored in the opening five minutes of the second quarter for PBA. The Sailfish were outshot 11-6 as the Moccasins scored five second-quarter goals and led 13-3 at the half.

The Sailfish were shutout in the second half of play as Florida Southern continued their offensive attack with nine second-half goals. Leading scorer Anna Laskaris was kept in check by a strong FSC defense as they held her to just one shot and PBA as a team to twelve shots. The bright spot of the game came from goalie Courtney Rausch who made 11 saves in the game. With her ninth save on the game, Rausch broke the single-season saves record in PBA history as she finished the season with 122.

The Sailfish end their season with a 2-12 record. The Sailfish will lose five seniors, including leading scorer Laskaris and all-time points leader Kiki Cinotti, but will look to build on their first full offseason and recruiting class from coach Katy Richardson.
