No. 13 Spartans complete a comeback to defeat No. 17 Lynn

BOCA RATON, FL – The University of Tampa Spartans women’s lacrosse team make a comeback against No.17 Lynn University to win their last regular season game of the season.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: 

The game started with Lynn seeing the back of the net early scoring the first two goals. Tampa didn’t wait too long and scored a goal of their own made by Sarah Hinkle which was her 40th goal of the season. Tampa got the ball rolling from their but cooled off as the quarter went on. They then caught up to Lynn tying the game in the last minute of the quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

0:59 – Lizzie Pierpont, unassisted

Score: 3-3 (Tie)

Second Quarter: 

The second quarter started the same with Lynn starting to score. It was a slow quarter for Tampa with them not being able to find the back of the net for about 11 minutes. Despite Lynn going on a scoring frenzy, Alex Walling attempted to stop them from racking the score up too much. Tampa was only able to score once this quarter with a goal made by Hinkle in the last seconds of the quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

Score: 4-7 (Lynn)

Third Quarter: 

With the last second goal before halftime, Tampa carried some of their momentum into the start of the third quarter. Lynn got scoring early, but Tampa quickly followed behind scoring two goals within seconds of each other, slowly chipping away at Lynn’s lead. Tampa tied the game at eight with just over 2:30 left then closed the quarter tying it again at nine. Walling had a huge save at the end of the quarter preventing Lynn from taking the lead going into the fourth quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

2:48 – Christina Romano, unassisted

Score: 9-9 (Tie)

Fourth Quarter:

Tampa started the quarter hot wasting no time getting to the net. Cece Colombo got the offense started early giving Tampa the first lead of the game. The game became chippy as Tampa had now caught up to Lynn. From there, the offense continued to roll scoring back-to-back goals around the 10-minute mark. Tampa dominated the fourth quarter pulling away from Lynn and beating them by five. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

No. 9 Fighting Knights fall to No. 19 Tampa 15-9

Boca Raton, Florida – After a hot start in the first half Lynn would not be able to replicate it in the second falling to Tampa 15-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Fighting Knights would take an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter, with goals by Mallory Jarka and Kristyn Johnson.
  • Tampa would follow that up with back-to-back goals of their own to tie the game 2-2. In the final four minutes, both teams would swap goals and go into the second quarter tied 3-3.
  • The Fighting Knights would open the second quarter on fire scoring four straight goals while allowing one from Tampa. Lynn would use their dominant second quarter to take a 7-4 lead going into halftime.
  • Tampa would strike back in the third quarter outscoring Lynn 5-2 to tie the game 9-9 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Tampa would run away with the game in the fourth scoring six goals. Lynn could not come up with enough offense in the second half falling to Tampa 15-9.
