DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University lacrosse team dropped its last non-conference game of the year 22-12 at Mercer University Sunday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.

Within the first minute of the contest, the Hatters (3-7) fell behind 1-0 after Mercer’s Erin Degnan found the back of the Stetson net. The Hatters responded at the 13:49 mark with a goal from Saige Roe to knot the game at 1-1. After Roe’s goal, the Bears (4-2) netted six in a row to take a 6-1 lead by the 11:48 mark. Freshman Samantha Paglino netted the Hatters second goal of the day, but the Bears continued to tack on more and by the end of the 1st quarter, Mercer had an 11-3 lead. In the 2nd, the Hatters scored thrice more but the Bears continued to hammer the Stetson goal and scored six more times to take a 17-6 lead into intermission.

Out of the break, the Stetson defense held Mercer to just two goals as the Hatters offense put up three more of their own. Jordyn Humphrey and Camden Frissora each netted a goal and Paglino scored her second of the game to end the quarter. In the 4th, the Hatters added three more goals, but the Bears continued to hold a commanding lead that the Hatters could not overcome, as Stetson fell 22-12.

The Stetson lacrosse team will be back in action on Saturday, April 2 as the Hatters begin ASUN Conference action against Kennesaw State. Game time is set for noon.
