Prep lacrosse: Barron Collier Boys Blow Out Gulf Coast in Second Half of First-Round Game

The Barron Collier High School boys lacrosse team showed off a diversity of offenses and easily won a state playoff game Thursday night.
The District 20 champion Cougars scored nine unanswered goals and overpowered District 19 titlist Gulf Coast, 14-6, in the renewal of an intense local rivalry at Barron Collier High in a Region 3 first-round play-in game.
Barron Collier pulled away in the second half after a competitive first. The Cougars fell behind by two early in the game, but took a 3-2 lead at the end of one quarter.
Connor McGraw led the Barron Collier attack with four goals. Tad DeMallie and Pat Mahoney each had three goals. And Will Asher also scored twice fr the Cougars, who will play Tuesday at Riverview, which beat Canterbury, 9-6..
“We’ve been working on a lot of different offenses, and it all finally came together tonight,” Barron Collier coach John Sivillo said. “Our first half was kind of weak because we had some issues. Once we got going, we were just all out there doing our jobs.”
