(March 31, 2014) – Freshman Jack Vonarband Nicholas Schultz (Boca High School) accounted for nine of the Tars’ 14 goals on Monday night as Rollins cruised past Florida Tech, 14-7. The game had originally been scheduled for Saturday afternoon but was rescheduled due to tornado warnings in the area. The Tars improve to 6-4, 2-1 in the SSC, while FIT falls to 2-8, 0-3 in the conference. Vonarb had a career day to lead Rollins, scoring a personal best six goals, the most by a Tars player in a game this season. Schultz also filled up the stat sheet, finishing with three goals and a pair of assists for five points. Morgan Baker added two goals and two assists while Stephen DeFlumeri, Joshua Jenks, andJack Dever finished with a goal each with Dever also recording three assists. Charlie Morrisette and Andrew Conley (Boone HS)  led the Panthers with two goals each while CJ Nichols finished with three assists. In goal, Andrew Sheerin earned the win for Rollins, making 11 saves while playing the full 60 minutes. The Tars opened the scoring in the first, taking an early 1-0 lead on Vonarb’s first of the game before Conley would tie the game shortly after off an assist from Nichols at the 11:12 mark of the opening quarter. Baker then scored his first to spark a Rollins run of three unanswered to take a 4-1 lead with less than seven minutes left in the first. Morrisette’s first of the game cut the Tars’ lead to 4-2 before Rollins came back with three more, two by Vonarb followed by DeFlumeri coverting after taking a pass from Adam Stefanowicz to extend the lead to 7-2 early in the second. The Panthers would come back with two scores before the half, the last coming with just 24 seconds on the clock, to pull within three at 7-4 headed to the third. Vonarb opened the half with his fifth of the game on a man-up opportunity that carried over from the end of the second, followed by two more FIT scores, pushing the score to 8-6, with 12:23 left in the third. Baker would halt the short Panther run at the 6:21 mark before Schultz ripped off three straight Rollins scores, one to end the scoring in the third and then opened the fourth with two more to make it 12-6 with 13:38 left in the game. Christian Isola would cut the deficit back to five with 6:54 left but that is as close as it would get the rest of the way, with Rollins adding two more to ice the victory; first Jenks at the 6:17 mark followed by Vonarb, fittingly capping his day with 1:14 left to seal it.
