In an early game today the U11 Blue Devil Elite got past the Indiana Mad Cats 9-5 to advance to the Sweet 16 Round. They played the number two seed Looney’s 2020 team from Maryland tough, but eventually dropped the game in a 5-1 decision.
The P.B. Storm U11 team led by James Dorsey, Chase Hogan, Chris Ernston and Aidan Aken started the day off well with a 9-6 win over the Red Devil United out of North Carolina. They then ran into the top seed Team 91 Crush from New York. The Crush scored 40 goals and allowed two today in two games. The Team 91 Crush is freakishly good. These are U11 kids who shoot between their legs and behind their backs. This team will be tough to stop, but FCA will try tomorrow.
The Monsters Lax team had the number four seed this morning. The took on a very physical Grand River Ironmen team from Ontario. Monsters had been getting great play from Ryan Bolduc, F/O middie, and middie F/O Owen Ingham, who scored a hat trick in the first game on Sunday. Luca Domingez anchored a strong defense and provided the leadership. The Ironmen, who were 1-3 on Sunday, showed up ready to play today. In a very physical game the Ironmen came out on top 5-4. The Ironmen would eventually lose to the FCA National team 11-4.
The Tampa Tarpons U11 team came out fast this morning beating the Kentucky Storm 10-5. The Tarpons impressed us with good clears, always passing the ball up the field. A solid attack combo of Tyler Wagner and Jack Butcher accounted for a number of goals with Wagner cutting down the middle and Butcher feeding from X. Wyatt Knust played great in the goal this weekend coming up with some great saves for the Tarpons. The Tarpons were stopped by the FCA National team in the round of 16.
The U13 Tampa Elite team looked solid this weekend taking the number nine seed in the twenty-eight team field. Tampa plays a very well disciplined offense with lots of picks and very deliberate play. They are fundamentally sound and beat PB Storm and the FCA Colorado team in all aspects of the game by scores of 9-2 and 9-4 respectively. They have fast, tall middies that create match up nightmares for most teams. The offense is anchored by Noah Sexton, Caleb Ward, and a young player to watch; 8th grader Jake Lemon. (Son of Tampa Jesuit Head Coach and NLL VP of Operations Brian Lemon.) Dakota Dickerson at D-Pole is tremendous in the transition and Alex “A.C.” Cordero was solid in the cage all weekend. The Tampa Elite run came to a halt in the Elite Eight round as FCA’s depth was just too much to overcome. They lost 11-3.
The Storm had a tougher run in the U13 Division this year. They went 0-4 on Sunday and earned the twenty-four seed. But they were game and worked hard. Christian Tomei played well in the goal. Thomas Dean at LSM looked impressive and worked hard and Jack Killian was consistent throughout the weekend. The Storm went into the consolation bracket and defeated New York’s Akwesane Attack before losing to the Houla Guns from Texas.
Florida Elite led by Brand Ging, Nick Updike, Quinn Spae, and Chris Castalan had the number three seed after going 3-0-1 on Sunday. They advanced to the Elite Eight by beating Michingan’s Power Play Titans 9-3. The sixth seeded MadLax National team features five Florida players. Pat Mahoney, Bishop Price, and Sam Hoover of Naples, as well as William Flanjack and Scott Wheler of Ft. Myers. Madlax beat Bama Lax this morning and then managed to top Florida Elite in the next round. Madlax also had Timber Creek High School Alumni and current U Tampa player Jake Rooney on the coaching staff.
The PB Storm U15 team went 3-1 on Sunday including a win over the Madlax National team. They came into the day with the five seed and had to like their chances today. However, they were upset in the round of 16 by the twelve-seed Atlanta Crush. Atlanta went onto win another game in the Elite Eight before getting rolled over 15-3 by FCA. Although Coach Mike Buttelman was disappointed in the loss he was upbeat about his team’s experience and play. Especially defensman Charles Seabrooks who was outstanding all weekend. Seabrooks was actually given a game ball by one referee after a game who said he had never seen a kid play so well. Will Nicklas, Mikey Buttelman, Jason Brown, and goalie Ethan Randell all played very well for the Storm this weekend.
Stampede LC earned the ten seed after a 2-2 effort on Sunday. They faced off this morning against a very large, physical Grand River Ironmen team from Ontario. Despite solid play they could not pull it off and lost 8-5. They went to the consolation round and defeated the Bandits of Michigan 15-2 and will face Michigan’s Power Play Titans tomorrow. Jake Ferguson had another outstanding day at LSM, scoring a couple of goals for the Stampede.
Although Florida does not have a team in the Rising Stars (U17) bracket we do have some players competing. Palm Beach Gardens attackman Trevor Keena, Stephano Mastro of Tampa, and Windermere’s Jordan Rapport (D) all play for the FCA National team. Madlax Nat’l features four Barron Collier players; Michael Nathan (D), Drew Goodrich (M), Omar Bishr (M), and Jake Telitz (M-F/O).
The Elite Division Semi Finals will be stacked with some of Florida’s top players. Florida Elite with John McTurk, Whitten Roschach of Vero Beach, Mikey Urso from Pope and Dawson Allen of Calvary Christian reached the final four and will play Sweetlax at 8:00 am. Florida Elite survived a four goal run in the first half agains the Atlanta Copperheads today when Troy Fischer got a big goal to get the Elite back on track.
Sweetlax is loaded with D-1 commits including Lake Brantley’s Tim Gehlbach (NC), Jupiter’s Connor Alexander (Duke) and Lake Highland Prep’s Max Parker (Syracuse) at the Face Off X.
Another Final Four team, The Deleware Silver Backs, picked up Tampa Jesuit’s Noah Menendez -U of Tampa- (M-F/O), Bennett Taylor (D), Zach Salazar FSC -(A), and Naples’ Bo Garrison (M). They will match up against the Road Warriors who feature Lake Highland’s Don Eidson and goalie Adam Sawicki (Lehigh.) IMG’s Jonathan Thelen (Lynn), Lake Mary standout Josh Marmetschke, and Semionole High School 2015 defender Josh Williamson (Mercer.)
