Although the district has been re-worked and now has more teams West Orange should repeat as District Champs again this season.  Olympia is no longer in their district and they have added Apopka, Monte Verde, Wekiva, and Ocoee. West Orange has a solid group of 2017s.  Liam Mueller (2017) will lead the attack after a great off-season that included an All-Star selection at the NXT Showcase.  Zach Malaussena (2017) and Daniel Luette (2017) anchor the midfield, both looking to have break-out years on offense.  The defense is led by Alex Kouchalakos (2017) and Jake Fromberg (2017), who hope to emerge as one of the top d-pole duos in the Metro. Big games on the schedule include an emerging “Orange County Metro West” conference foe, Dr. Philips.  “Of course Dr. Phillips has become a big rival these last couple years and have beaten us out for the Metro title, so look for that to be a big game, as well.” Commented Head Coach Bill Baker. “The immediate goals for this year is to win our fifth-straight district title and our third Metro title in five years.” A very important game for West Orange this year is the regular season game on March 11 vs. Apopka.   ” It will be special for us because we will be honoring Yellow Brick Road – The Holden Flynn Foundation (ybrf.org) and making a special presentation to the organization before the game.” Apopka is the team that has the best chance to upset West Orange.   They have a young man who we think may be the best goalie in Central Florida.  Certainly the most athletic.  Austin DeGross (Missouri Valley College) is a difference maker.  He makes saves, runs the defense, and handles the ball as well as any goalie out there.  He along with Caleb Hippensteel keep pressure on opponents.  Hippensteel is an excellent Face Off man who’s size and speed can make those extra possessions count.  A team with a a goalie and a FOGO of this caliber can prevent teams from getting good runs against them.  Keep an eye on Anthony Abreu (Missouri Valley College). The senior LSM should be poised for a big year.  The offense will count on junior attackman Ryan Theroux. Monte Verde is an improving and maturing program.  After a couple of JV/Independent seasons the Eagles are ready to compete in the district this year.  Look for Justin Williams to control the offense from X and get the ball out to big brother Jordan who can dodge and finish. East Ridge (5-7 in 2015), Lake Minneola (7-6,) Ocoee (6-7,) and Wekiva (3-10) round out this district. Back to main preview page
