
FIT Men: Florida Tech Unable to Hold off No. 9 Adelphi

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) – In an early season matchup of Panthers, Florida Tech was unable to hold onto a three-goal fourth quarter lead against Adelphi Thursday afternoon and fell to the No. 9 team in the nation 10-8 at Panther Field.
Long pole Nate Menninger led FIT with two goals and Logan Sweeney also added two points on a goal and an assist. Five other players found the back of the net once in the game for Florida Tech.
Tom Filipow guided the Panthers’ back-line with three caused turnovers while Addison Abramson scooped up a game-high nine ground balls. Daniel Flock ended the contest with nine saves.
Tyler Covey got Florida Tech on the board first just 2:15 into the game off an assist from Sweeney. AU responded with five straight scores, the final off an unassisted effort by Shane Deboer with 11:44 remaining in the opening half.
FIT ended the bleeding when Carson Clough found Cody Martin for a man-up tally at the 7:07 mark of the second quarter to cut the margin to 5-2.
Nick Wynne opened the second half by finding the back of the net for an unassisted man-up goal just 15 seconds into the third and ignited a 6-0 run that grabbed FIT an 8-5 advantage with 9:59 left in the fourth quarter.
However, Adelphi answered FIT’s run with three scores over the next 48 seconds of action and tied the game at 8-8. AU would tac on two more goals, by Osmundsen and Racalbuto, to regain the lead 10-8 with 4:34 remaining.
The Panthers had their chances to get back on the board but their attempts were shut down by AU goalkeeper Brendan McDougal, who finished with 12 saves in the game, as the final seconds came off the clock.
FIT finished with an advantage in shots (37-29) and ground balls (36-31), while both teams went 11-of-22 on faceoffs.
Florida Tech will look to bounce back when it faces Wingate this Sunday, Feb. 19, in a neutral site matchup in Savannah, Georgia. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m.
