MELBOURNE Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech began the game on a hot streak jumping out to a four-goal lead against No. 5 Lindenwood on Friday night. However, the Panthers were unable to continue the momentum after taking an 11-5 lead in the second half and fell to the Lions 15-12 at Panther Stadium.
FIT had a three-goal lead, 8-5, before starting off the second half strong and doubling the margin to six after the first six minutes of the period. But then Lindenwood proved why they were deserving of the Top 5 national ranking as their attack woke up and managed to power in seven goals in a five-and-a-half-minute time span to take over the lead at 12-11.
A few minutes later, Allie Modica tied the game back up for the Panthers off of an unassisted rip that blew by the Lions’ goalie. This was not enough, though, to swing the momentum back in Florida Tech’s favor.
To finish off the game Lindenwood tossed in three more goals to beat the Panthers, 15-12, in a hard fought battle by both sides.
Leading the offense for the team was a player that is familiar with filling that role. Modica managed a team-high five points on three goals and two assists. Right behind her was Caroline Dunleavy, who snagged three points of her own on two goals and one assist.
Modica wasn’t only strong on the offensive side of the ball, the senior showcased her all-around skill set as she managed to also tally a team-high in ground balls (4) and tied Arielle Gunderson for the team-lead in caused turnovers (3).
Stephanie Stuart, who slowed down the Lions’ attack for much of the contest, managed to save 12-of-33 shots she faced in her 60 minutes of work.
The Panthers will look to grab their first “W” of the season next Friday when they head to Belmont, North Carolina to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. This game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can access links to live coverage of the action at FloridaTechSports.com.
