FLN Weekly High School Media Poll (Well, This Writer Anyhow!) – 3/29/15
Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in Uncategorized.
First, the good news:
Remember this last week?
Yes, I’d rather play lacrosse on spring break . . .
or
Are you a moron Lee?
The good news is no one tweeted I was a moron . . . or is it bad news because no one wanted to be honest?
The bad news?
Spring break also meant no Top 10 upsets and pretty much no movement in the Top 10 last week.
Meaning this Media Poll article isn’t all that interesting.
Unless you think anything I write is interesting . . . but not even my mother thinks that.
The only teams that had bad losses in the Top 20 were #15 Pope John Paul, clobbered by Saint Andrew’s, #18 Bishop Moore, which was upset by Bolles a day after taking Ponte Vedra to overtime, and Boca Raton, which was manhandled by St. Thomas. Benjamin lost to Jupiter by 3, which is pretty much what you would expect given the rankings. Pope rebounded the next night against Palm Beach Central.
Key games are definitely on the docket this week, particularly Tuesday and Thursday. Some of our top Florida teams are playing very tough Georgia teams.
Monday
Martin County hosts Oxbridge
University School hosts Columbus Catholic
Tuesday (I wish I had Star Trek beaming capabilities for this day!)
Benjamin hosts Boca Raton
Fleming Island hosts Ponte Vedra
Lake Mary hosts Lake Highland Prep
Pine Crest hosts Pope John Paul
Vero Beach hosts Jupiter
Thursday
Jupiter hosts St. Thomas Aquinas (#1 vs. #2!!)
Lake Highland Prep hosts Ponte Vedra (another Star Trek night!)
Friday
HB Plant – Centennial (Ga.) – we need to see the Tampa teams doing it outside their region
Lake Mary – Lambert (Ga.)
Milton (Ga.) – Barron Collier
Martin County hosts Benjamin (at some point Martin needs to win against a traditional power)
(on Saturday there are other games against Georgia schools at the Lake Mary jamboree)
I think it’s fair to say we’ll be seeing some movement this week!
Again, Instant Replay from last week:
There is one easy pick and that is at the top as STA continues to roll with their dominant performance over Boca Raton.
So, here we go . . . (still waiting for SOMEONE . . .) Maybe if I make it Blue someone will . . .
This Week’s Top 20
#1 – St. Thomas Aquinas
#2 – Jupiter
#3 – Saint Andrew’s
#4/5 – tie, Stoneman Douglas / Ponte Vedra
#6 – Lake Highland Prep
#7 – Vero Beach
#8 – Lake Mary
#9 – Seminole
#10 – Maclay
#11 – Barron Collier
#12 – Buchholz
#13 – Jensen Beach
#14 – Benjamin
#15 – Newsome
#16 – Oxbridge
#17 – Bishop Moore
#18 – Cypress Bay
#19 – Pope John Paul
#20 – Fleming Island
Also considered: Pine Crest, Columbus Catholic, Gulliver Prep, Martin County, Tampa Jesuit, Nease, Oviedo, Oak Hall, Dr. Phillips, HB Plant, Berkeley Prep, Cypress Lakes
As you can tell, not a lot of change at all. Just a little reshuffling at the bottom and Boca Raton needs to find a way to stem the bleeding. Some of the Tampa area programs are starting to work their way up but they are hindered by not playing the better teams in other regions. The Orlando area is also stepping up.
Districts are coming up shortly and these things will work themselves out but when you look at the Top 20 there are some teams that will not make the playoffs:
Jupiter or Benjamin
Lake Mary or Seminole
Saint Andrew’s or Pope
Jensen Beach or Vero Beach
and if Pine Crest sneaks in then they and Stoneman Douglas
Lots of great lacrosse left!
No excuses! Get out to a game this week!
