WASHINGTON, D.C.— A record setting defensive and dynamic offensive performance led the Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse program to a 21-1 defeat of Atlantic Sun opponent Howard on Sunday afternoon.
“We had an amazing game defensively,” said Head Coach Mindy McCord. “We did a great job at causing turnovers in transition and getting stops.”
Rachel Aus led 11 different goal scorers for the Dolphins with five goals including three straight in a 79 second span of the half. Holly Ventimiglia added four goals while Abby Remenapp accrued six points from two goals, and a team high four assists.
Danielle Della Rocca contributed three ground balls in addition to her two goals and one assist. The Dolphins only allowed the Bison to take four shots the entire game.
It took four minutes for Jacksonville to get the offense jump started, with Kristin Ridenhour finding the net with the first goal. From there the Dolphins steadily built on the lead owning a 14-0 first half lead as they forced 10 turnovers.
Following halftime, Hannah Wilcox secured her lone goal of the game just 36 seconds into the second half. Jacksonville followed it up with six additional goals over the next 18 minutes before Taylor Gainey scored the Bison’s lone and final goal of the game with 8:15 left on the clock.
