Florida Lacrosse Cup Comes to Delray Beach on Fathers’ Day Weekend

One of the best things about being involved with FloridaLacrosseNews.com is getting to know so many new people.  For instance, you get to hang with former MLL and NLL great Kevin Finneran and talk about his upcoming (three weeks from now) tournament to be held over Father’s Day weekend in Delray Beach. Set at the beautiful natural turf fields the city built a few years ago, the event has the support of the Palm Beach Sports Commission. Coach Finn (as he known by most) has partnered with an experienced soccer tournament organizer whose sons have – is anyone surprised? – decided they would like to play lacrosse.  The result will be a first rate event, one which will bring you back next year. Here are a few features, some which you may have not seen before:
  • Each player and coach receives a ticket for Saturday night’s Florida Launch game against the Charlotte Hounds at FAU stadium in Boca Raton.  Accordingly, all games will finish by 5:00pm on Saturday to get to FAU in plenty of time, and
  • Some of the teams will be selected to play on the field at FAU before and during half time of the Launch game!  (an evening at a Launch game is one of the best things you can do in South Florida – breeze in your face, sun at your back, easy access and great seating – just to watch the best players in the world who know how to show their appreciation, as shown in the photo below)
  • Coaches will have a seminar and social with Launch personnel
  • Each game will have three certified referees
  • Trainers will be on site
  • Gatorade is sponsoring plentiful drinks for the players
  • Each division is limited to eight teams
  • It’s a Saturday/Sunday event (no Friday night games), so travel and expenses can be kept to a minimum
  • Handicap and parking assistance will be available
  • Both boys (U9 through High School) and a girls high school division will be played at the same site
  • Early scheduling information available to players and families
  • Team cost is $1,200, a price which is a bargain given the quality and extras.  A few spots remain in some of the divisions.
Summer ball is about fun and getting better.  Truth be known, the parents probably have more fun than their children.  For those of you who know the lively restaurant and beach scene nearby, this makes for a great family weekend. The tournament website is:  http://fllacrossecup.com/ FLC LOGO and directions to the field are here:  http://www.delrayac.com/#!field-information/kgh1r Oh, and one more thing – FLN will be there in force with complete coverage for the aspiring stars of tomorrow.
