FT Men: Florida Tech Travels to Saint Leo for SSC Opener

(Men’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech (5-1) is off to its best start in program history heading into its Sunshine State Conference opener against the Saint Leo Lions (4-2) on Saturday in Saint Leo, Florida. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at University Turf Stadium The Panthers are flying high after defeating Ohio Valley University 21-10 on Wednesday at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium. Florida Tech was firing on all cylinders against the Fighting Scots as the Panthers recorded program highs in goals (21), shots (71) and ground balls (52) in the win. FIT started the game off slowly, allowing Ohio Valley to score the first goal of the game. The Panthers answered the Scots’ tally with four consecutive goals, three coming from Daniel Errett on the wing. The teams would exchange goals the rest of the first quarter to head into the second with the Panthers leading 6-4. FIT controlled the rest of game, outscoring the Scots 15-6 en route to its fifth victory of the season. Errett paced the Panthers with six goals and two assists and Jason Terry finished with four goals. Andrew Conley added two goals and one assist and brothers Zach Wynne and Nick Wynne each recorded one goal and three assists in the win. Saint Leo is coming off a 17-8 win over Less-McRae on Thursday. The Lions were up 5-0 at the end of the first quarter and carried a 9-2 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lions substituted starting goalie Dave Moore for their back-up Jesse Leeman. Saint Leo outscored Lees-McRae 8-6 in the half on the way to its fourth victory of the season. Dylan Yonts led the Lions with five goals and two assists and Jake Gilmour scored one goal and dished out five assists in the win. Florida Tech is 1-2 all-time against Saint Leo, with the Lions winning the previous matchup 13-7.   Live stats will be available at FloridaTechSports.com.
