All players will meet in Winter Park Florida for the Youth Showcase on January 7th followed by a High School Showcase on the 8th. College Coaches from around the Country representing DI, DII and DIII schools will be working with players alongside Professional and Team USA Player Joe Walters and Sweetlax Coaches. “The goal for Saturday’s Youth event is to provide players an example of how the College Showcases work in a Camp atmosphere,” JW1’s President Joe Walters said, “we think it’s an important step in their College recruitment process.” Players will be run through a number of drills and compete in scrimmages. “There will be a focus on the player development component also” Walters added, “the entire day gives a player an idea of how they stack up against their peers while also being coached by College Coaches”. The Youth age divisions will be from the graduation years of 2021, 2022 and 2023’s. “The true value add is the Q&A sessions parents will have with College Coaches AND having Bobby Wynne, Assistant Headmaster & Director of Academic Advising from the Salisbury School speak who will review the NCAA academic requirements” added Chelsea Henderson, Event Coordinator, “ there is so much guidance parents are looking for with the college recruiting process and Bobby is a sought after speaker on this topic. We are so lucky to have him joining us for the event to talk with parents and players”. After the Saturday Youth event; Sunday will be featuring the High School players from graduation years 2018, 2019 and 2020’s. Over 20 College Coaches are expected to participate with an emphasis on coaching the players through drills and scrimmages. Bobby Wynne will be addressing parents that day also. Sweetlax Lacrosse is one of the leaders in the country for College Placement, this past year 100% of their 2017 Upstate class is committed to play at the next level. After their first season with Sweetlax Florida teams this past summer, 14 players have committed to play lacrosse at the next level, with the majority of them committing to play at Division I schools. Their Summer Invitational this past June drew over 120 College Coaches from around the Country. JW1 is planning on a number of future Showcases. They particularly see a need for them at the Youth level where younger players can prepare themselves for future recruiting competitions. “The more prepared we can get these players for that environment the better for all,” Walters stated, “these events will definitely give them a head start on their peer group”. To register for the Showcase please visit either the JW1 Lacrosse (www.jw1lacrosse.com) and/or Sweetlax Lacrosse website (www.sweetlaxlacrosse.com). Limited spots per age group and position are available.
