The Fighting Knights defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 17-5 to earn their first win of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Nick Nehring made 10 saves in his first start for the Blue & White. In the victory, Lynn scored a program-record for goals in a game white Rainone became the first Fighting Knights to record six goals, breaking the previous mark of five set last season. Transfer Johnny Gavin scored the first goal of the season unassisted with 7:22 to go in the first quarter to give Lynn the lead. PBA responded three minutes later when Greg Swanson scored on a man-up opportunity. Rainone’s first goal camewith under 30 seconds to play in the first to give the Fighting Knights a 2-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Tyler Janvrin, who led the team with points last season, scored with 10:29 to go in the half for his first goal of 2015. Freshman Sam Turner earned his first goal at 8:39 while Rainone was awarded the assist. Rainone scored again with 3:55 until halftime to give Lynn a 5-1 advantage that it would hold until the break. Palm Beach Atlantic scored two minutes into the second half when Camden Baggs found the back of the crease unassisted. Lynn responded nine seconds later when Rainone scored unassisted at 13:05. Joey Bauer scored on an assisted from Daniel Wilkerson at 10:08 to cut the Sailfish’s deficit in half to trail Lynn 6-3. Rainone scored again at 6:57 unassisted to make it a four-goal lead for the Knights. After both watched 2014 from the sidelines, it was only fitting that Austin Jerhoff would find Mark Snellman for his first goal of his career while Jerhoff earned his first assist. Gavin found the back of the goal with 2:35 to play in the third quarter on an assist from freshman Caleb Cerf and Lynn’s leading scorer in 2014, Brian Kiel, logged his first of the season on a pass from Jerhoff at 1:47. Jerhoff and Rainone were dominant for Lynn in the fourth quarter, scoring five of Lynn’s seven goals. Gavin logged his third of the game while Cerf recorded his first career goal with 1:25 left in the game. Jordon Van Leenen had a pair of assists in the final 15 minutes while Austin Shircliff had his first apple of his career. PBA scored a pair of goals in the last quarter but was no math up for the Fighting Knights. Rainone had a team-high six goals while adding a pair of assists to lead all players with eight points. Jerhoff and Gavin each had hat tricks while Jerhoff also had a threesome of assists. Kiel, Cerf, Snellman, Janvrin and Turner all had a goal to mark the first time in program history eight different players had goals. Vinny Genovesi was 18-29 on face off attempts winning 69 percent. Genovesi and Cerf both led the Fighting Knights with five groundballs each while Nehring and Tyler Briggs both had four. Cerf and Dante Egan both caused a pair of turnovers. Baggs was the only member of the Sailfish squad to score two goals on seven shots. PBA’s goalkeeper Drake Kessell had 16 saves in the loss. Lynn starts the season 1-0 for the first time in program history while marking the first time the Fighting Knights have had a winning record. The Blue & White will travel to Palm Coast, Fla., for a neutral site match against No. 3 LIU Post on Sunday, March 1. Faceoff is set for 12 pm.
