Tampa, FL- In a back and forth, hard fought game, Plant High School finished on top when senior Julian Taylor (Roanoke) scored with only three minutes remaining in the game, Plant Panthers led 9 – 8. Taylor scooped up a loose ball from a shot he took that rebounded off the Newsome goalie’s leg to claim his third goal of the night. Plant’s defense, led by senior Grant Preston (Washington and Lee) stopped a furious rally by the Newsome Wolves in the final minutes to secure the victory. Plant goalie Christian Chambers finished the night with 15 saves. Plant attackmen, Stuart Brannan and Mason Beedy also scored three goals and were helped out by Danny Carlson and Enrique Marnotes’ two assists each and Jackson Misner’s one assist. Newsome was led by Kyle Rintoul’s hat-trick. Newsome finishes their season 13 – 3. Plant is now 14 – 1 and heads to Orlando to play Dr. Phillips, Friday at 7:00.
