The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the Bolles Bulldogs 9-4 in the FHSAA Finals first-round play-in game. The game got off to a slow start with a majority of the scoring occurring in the second half. After a scoreless first quarter, Ponte Vedra’s Reece Andrews scored with 4:52 remaining in the half to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs answered with two goals to make it 2-1 and take the lead. Nicky Carnicelli hit the back of the net to tie the game at two where the score remained at the break. Ponte Vedra took control in the second half which has been a common theme during the regular season. Overall, the Bolles offense did not pose much of a threat in the second half as Ponte Vedra cruised past Bolles to capture the opportunity to continue their post season play. With what many believed to be a down year for Ponte Vedra, the Sharks continue to prove they have what it takes. An extraordinary effort by All-American goalie Ryan Applegate stopped Bolles from capitalizing on several opportunities and he ended up with nine saves during the game. Reece Andrews, Garrett Boyle and Dalton LeMaster led the Sharks in goals with two apiece. Miles Silva, Nicky Carnicelli and Logan Taucher each tallied one goal. Ponte Vedra travels to Oak Hall on Friday for the second-round play-in game.
