SSC Athletes of the Week: March 13 – 19

via press release   Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Jake Gilmour / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Attack / Pickering, Ontario Gilmour finished the week with 12 points on four goals and eight assists to earn Offensive Player of the Week. The junior averaged 6.0 points per game as the Lions went 2-0 over the week. He also added three ground balls and one caused turnover. Against UAH, Gilmour finished with eight points as he dished out six assists and added two goals. He also added a ground ball. In the Lions win over NGU, Gilmour led the team with four points as he tallied two goals and two assists. He also picked up two ground balls and added a caused turnover. Gilmour leads the SSC in points per game (5.75), and assists per game (3.13), both which are top 10 in the nation. He is fourth in assists per game in all of Division II, and sixth in points per game. Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Thomas Tatarian / Saint Leo University / So. / Goalkeeper / Shoreham, New York Tatarian picked up a two-win week in goal for Saint Leo on his way to a second Defensive Player of the Week honor. Tatarian and the Lions topped both Alabama-Huntsville and North Greenville. In the Lions 21-3 win over UAH, Tatarian finished with 12 saves and only allowed two goals in 45 minutes of action. He finished with a 85.7-save percentage against the Chargers. In the Lions 9-7 win over NGU, the sophomore snagged a career-high 16 saves with a 69.6 save percentage. He finished with 28 saves on the week, and a 75.7-save percentage while adding two GBS. He faced a total of 53 shots, and only allowed nine total goals in two games. Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week Lance Pavlina / Florida Tech / Jr. / Faceoff Desert Vista, Arizona Pavlina is named Specialist of the Week after posting an .789 winning percentage in faceoffs during the week after going 15-of-19 against Notre Dame de Namur. The Desert Vista, Arizona native went also recording a season high 13 ground balls as the Panthers captured a 22-6 victory over Notre Dame de Namur. After three consecutive victories, the Panthers are 4-4 on the season. —– Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Emily Santoli / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Fort Salonga, New York Santoli scored 10 goals and dished out six assists in three games to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Fort Salonga, New York native had three goals, including the game-winner, and two assists in the win over Bloomsburg. She then poured in five goals and tallied an assist in a win against No. 16 Indiana (Pa.). Santoli also scored two goals and dished out three assists in a victory against Seton Hill. For the week, she went 3-of-6 on free-position shots, picked up seven ground balls, won nine draw controls, and caused four turnovers. Following a 3-0 week, the Moccasins are now 11-2 overall. Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Malorie Olin / Rollins College / Jr. / Goalkeeper / Skaneateles, New York  Olin is awarded Defensive Player of the Week after 120 minutes between the pipes during two Rollins victories. The Skaneateles, New York native opened up the week with seven saves and two ground balls against Seton Hill, where she faced 16 shots from the Griffins, allowing only seven goals. Olin closed out the week with 12 saves against Belmont Abbey. Olin faced 18 shots from the Crusaders, allowing only three goals all contest. On the week, Olin added three ground balls. The Tars are now  8-2 overall and are riding a seven-game winning streak.
