St. Andrew’s Swims by Spanish River

By:  Pete Vining St. Andrew’s hosted Jog Road neighbor and district rival Spanish River Wednesday night in what this writer sees as a sign of the ever improving quality of the sport in Florida.  Yes, the Scots won handily, 19-7, but a quick glance at last year’s 22-0 score shows progress for River. The Scots saw goals from ten players, led by Conor Whipple’s six. The Sharks were led by junior Adrian Franzone who tallied two goals and two assists and senior Evan Deacon with two goals. Both players were called upon to play out of position and showed tremendous hustle.  Noteworthy, among others, were sophomores Colton Stanger (2g, 1a) and Turner Walker (1g) and freshman Davis Diamond (3a). These boys are a glimpse of the future. The Sharks were missing their top two face-off middies, so the Scots crew led by Grant Taco Mahler and Ben Kennedy benefitted, winning 24 of the 27 draws. Both teams are home Friday night in good match ups.  St. Andrew’s hosts Bishop Timon – St. Jude from Buffalo, NY on Senior Night and Spanish River plays a quickly improving 7-4 Jensen Beach. Stats: St. Andrew’s Whipple 6g 1a, Levine, 2g 2a, Lutes 3g, G. Mahler 1g 2a, Reall 1g 2a, K. Mahler 1g 1a, Bargas 1g 1a, Ranta 2a, Bartzokis 1g, Sami 1g, Kennedy 1g, Dykas 1a Spanish River Franzone 2g 2a, Stanger 2g 1a, D. Diamon 3a, Deacon 2g, Walker 1g
