Tampa Jesuit Moves Back Into Top Ten on Week 7 Coaches Poll

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
There was not much movement in the poll from week 6 to week 7.  The only change happened at the number ten spot where Tampa Jesuit once again cracked the top ten, replacing Bartram Trail who suffered losses to Centennial, GA and Lake Highland Prep.  The last week of the regular season is almost over and we should certainly see some changes in the top ten next week.
  1. Benjamin's stand out goalie Anthony Cicio
Benjamin’s stand out goalie Anthony Cicio has his team in at number 5
St .Andrew’s received all but one first place votes in our poll.  They are a the solid favorite after beating Spanish River 18-7 and losing to Timon St. Jude of NY 13-11. The Scots are still undefeated against Florida teams.
  2. Jupiter beat Benjamin 6-4 in the big game of week 7.  They also beat South Fork and Pine Crest by ten goals each.
  3. Lake Highland remains in the number three spot.  During week 7 they lost to Calvert Hall 10-6 and crushed Bartram Trail 21-7.
  4. St. Thomas Aquinas cruised past Bishop Verot and Ransom Everglades in week number 7 to hold onto the fourth place position in the poll.
  5. Benjamin lost their second game of the season to #2 Jupiter and beat Lake Mary 11-5 and Bishop Moore 6-2.  They remain at number five.
  6. Lake Brantley moved to 15-0 during week 7.  They beat Timber Creek 24-10, Lyman 10-0, and West Orange 11-1.
  7. Ponte Vedra beat Hagerty 14-7 but it wasn’t enough to move them past Lake Brantley.  They did beat Lake Brantley in week 8, but we’ll have to wait and see how that effects the poll next week.
  8. Lake Mary beat Northview GA 11-8 and lost to #5 Benjamin 5-11.  As we have seen all season long, our voters love a tough schedule and did not punish Lake Mary for the Benjamin loss, they stay at #8.
  9. Vero Beach beat St. Ed’s 15-4, lost to Calvert Hall 11-2, and cruised past John Carroll Catholic to stay in the number nine spot.
  10. Tampa Jesuit – They only change on this week’s poll is the disappearance of Bartram Trail again, replaced by Tampa Jesuit.   Jesuit played a brutal week 7 schedule and did a fantastic job.  They began the week beating one of the top Georgia teams, Lambert, 11-7.  They then lost to Canisius NY in a close game 9-8.  They finished the week beating NY’s Fordham Prep 8-3 and Texas’ Strake Jesuit 16-10.
Other teams receiving week 7 votes included Columbus, Maclay, Barron Collier, Bartram Trail, and Hagerty.
