Tars Tumble at Top-Ranked Limestone

(February 20, 2015) – Rollins traveled north to No. 1 Limestone on Friday afternoon but the top-ranked Saints were too much for the Tars as they eventually fell by a final score of 17-6. The loss is the first of the season for Rollins, who now sit at 2-1, while Limestone improves to 4-0. The Saints outshot the Tars, 44-33, and collected 40 ground balls compared to Rollins’ 29. Limestone has now won 29 straight at home. Sophomore Nicholas Schultz led the Tars with a pair of goals while Carson Buell and Jack Vonarb both added a goal and an assist each. Alex Petsos went 9-22 on face offs while collecting a team high five ground balls. Vinny Ricci led the Saints with four goals while Kyle Rhatigan added three goals and a pair of assists. Reid Reinholdt scored twice while registering a game high four assists. Kevin Reisman went 13-21 on face offs and recorded a game high 10 ground balls. In goal, Thomas Troiano started for the Tars and recorded nine saves in nearly 52 minutes before Andrew Hoemann came in for the final eight minutes, finishing with two saves. Patrick Sheridan was credited with the win for the Saints, collecting four saves in just over 38 minutes. Bobby Beshlian played the final 21:51 for Limestone and made five saves, all coming in the fourth quarter. Rollins hung tough through the first quarter, trailing just 1-0 after the first 15 minutes but the Saints eventually pulled away in the second. Limestone opened up a 7-0 lead with 4:47 left in the half, eventually outscoring the Tars 10-1 in the quarter to take a 11-1 lead into intermission. Buell accounted for the lone Rollins score in the first half. The Tars would play much better in the second half but the deficit proved to be insurmountable, eventually falling to No. 1 Limestone, 17-6. Rollins will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 23, traveling to Catawba. Face off is set for 4 p.m.
