Team Records Fall as Tars Trounce Lees-McRae, 21-3

From Rollinssports.com Rollins Posts New Team Highs in Goals and Points Scored in a Game WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2016) – An all-around team effort led to the Rollins men’s lacrosse team setting new program bests in goals scored and points tallied in a game as the Tars trounced the Bobcats of Lees-McCrae College by a final score of21-3 on Tuesday evening at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.  The win advances the Tars to a mark of 4-1 on the season, while Lees-McCrae drops to an overall record of 1-3. Rollins sets new records in goals scored in a game, points earned in a game, as well as man-down goals scored in a game.  Rollins snaps the previous mark of goals scored in a game by five, breaking the previous mark of 16 set back on April 1, 2012 at Lenoir-Rhyne.  The Tars also notch a new program best in points tallied in a game, breaking the previous record of 29 set back on March 16, 2013 against Adams State.  The team was three assists shy of setting a new program high in assists in a game, with the record set at 14 against Adams State from 2013, but earned a new best in man-down goals in a game, besting the previous record by one goal as they tallied three on the night. Justin Diamond and Joshua Jenks led the game in goals with four apiece, with Jenks scoring the first goals of his while Nicholas Schultz and Morgan Baker each earned a hat trick on the night.  Jared Selewski tallied two goals of his own, while Clay Phillips, Trey LaPorta, Jack Vonarb, Jeremy Slocumb, and AJ Gogan each scored once.  Phillips, Baker, Carson Buell, Vonarb, Slocumb, Dalton LeMaster, Gogan, Roy Hansen, Dylan Bassham, Travis Miller, Myles Shealey, and Max Wickline each earned one assist as a total of 17 Tars helped put points on the scoreboard. Rollins dominated the faceoff as the Tars won 21-of-28 on the evening.  Alex Petsos won 12-of-14 while picking up 12 ground balls, followed by Trey LaPorta, who won 7-of-11 attempts and earned five ground balls.  Jeremy Slocumb was 1-of-2 at the x, while Andrew Matthews went 1-for-1. The Tars saw a total of four keepers in cage throughout the evening, with Jake Hogan earning the win after making two saves and allowing one goal while facing seven shots from the Bobcats.  The sophomore earned a save percentage of .667 and 2.37 goals against average on the night as he saw a total of 25:16 minutes between the pipes.  William Doyle faced a total of 13 shots in 19:44 minutes in cage, allowing two goals and making three saves for a .600 save percentage and 6.08 GAAvg.  Andrew Hoemann played 8:10 minutes, earning one save, while Ty Wedekind played for 6:50 and faced two shots, both off target. The Bobcats saw one goal apiece from Tanner Jones, Dane Carney, and Dustin Barrow, while Alec Molander and Schuylor Dickerson each contributed an assist.  Dustin Barrow led the team in faceoff attempts, winning 6-of-13, while Dillon Quinn led the team in grounds balls and caused turnovers with three and two, respectively. Rollins jumped out to a two goal lead thanks to goals by Vonarb and Jenks, but the Bobcats cut the lead to one with a goal by Carney at the 11:01 mark to set the score at 2-1.  The Tars rolled through the remainder of the first quarter, scoring five unanswered goals, and held Lees-McRae off of the scoreboard in the second stanza while placing seven more shots in cage to hold a 14-1 lead at the half. The final two periods saw the Tars outscore the Bobcats 6-2 in the third quarter, as well as 1-0 in the final period, to close out the game with a final score of 21-3. The Tars return to action on Thursday, March 10, when they host No. 19 Belmont Abbey at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall Sandspur Field.  Game time is set for 76 p.m.  Fans who are unable to make it to the game will be able to follow all of the action live on the Geico Tars Sports Network on RollinsSports.com.
