No.1 Spartans Win Their Final Regular Season Home Game Against Lynn To Remain Undefeated

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans men’s lacrosse team remains undefeated as they win their Senior Day matchup against Lynn.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST QUARTER

The Spartans would open the game with Harry Kilkowski connecting with Luke McAnaney in front of the goal three minutes into the quarter. Less than a minute later, Cole Willard would net his second goal as a Spartan building the lead. The Fighting Knights answered about two minutes later, cutting into the Spartan lead. Willard found the back of the net for the second time, with Colin White scoring minutes later, causing Lynn to call a timeout. The Spartan offense kept rolling into the second quarter. The Spartans scored as follows:

12:21 – Cole Willard, assisted by Colin White

07:33 – Cole Willard, unassisted

05:23 – Colin White, assisted by Charlie Bolesh

02:06 – Colin White, assisted by Harry Kilkowski

SECOND QUARTER

The second quarter began similarly to the first, with both teams playing well on each side of the ball. The Fighting Knights would open the scoring early in the quarter, keeping the Spartans on their toes. McAnaney found the back of the net for the second time in the game, but Lynn responded right away, keeping the goal difference at three. Lynn called their second timeout of the game after netting another goal. The Spartan offense found their rhythm halfway through the quarter, netting a total of five goals in the quarter. The Spartans went into the half with a five goal lead, behind White‘s four goal game. The Spartans scored as follows:

THIRD QUARTER

The third quarter opened with a battle between the two teams. Owen Miller would open the scoring for the second half, with an unassisted shot. The Fighting Knights were not going down easy, scoring back to back goals to cut the Spartan lead to three goals. Daniel Fitzpatrick netted bak to back goals to build the Spartan lead back to five goals. The Fighting Knights were forced to call a timeout after the Spartans gained an eight goal lead, behind White‘s fifth goal. The Spartans offense was too much for the Fighting Knights in this quarter. The Spartans scored as follows:

FOURTH QUARTER

The fourth quarter would begin with both teams battling on defense. Down by six with just under nine minutes left to play, Lynn called another time out to try and decipher the Spartans’ game plan. Fitzpatrick opened the scoring for the quarter, netting his third of the game to finish his hat trick. The Spartans would prove too much for the Fighting Knights’ comeback efforts. The Spartans scored as follows:

00:47 – Casey Platenik, unassisted

Score: 18-10 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS:

The Spartans had two players that netted hat tricks, White (5) and Fitzpatrick (3)

Hunter Turner would record a game high 10 ground balls

The Spartans outshot the Fighting Knights 61-30

Fighting Knights fall to No. 1 Tampa

Tampa, Florida – Coming off of a big team win vs Palm Beach Atlantic, the Fighting Knights faced the number one team in the country, Tampa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After the Spartans went up 2-0 early, the Fighting Knights got on the board from a Caleb Wells goal. Matthew Ilchuk had the assist on the first Lynn goal.
  • Trailing 5-1 early in the second quarter, Wells and Ilchuk combined again on another goal for Lynn.
  • Down 6-2, Lynn scored a quick three goals in a 1:45.
  • Ilchuk, Wells, and Colby Keefe all scored unassisted for Lynn to trail only 6-5.
  • The Spartans scored four more goals before Xander Cosenza scored toward the end of the half. Lynn trailed 10-6 at the half.
  • Down 11-6, two scores from Ilchuk and Cosenza had Lynn down by three with over 12 minutes left in the third quarter.
  • Tampa put up five more goals before Joseph Michalski scored for Lynn from Ilchuk.
  • Opening the fourth quarter, Keefe scored for Lynn to be down 16-10. Lynn would lose 18-10.
  • Ilchuk led the Fighting Knights with two goals and three assists.
  • Wells had a hat trick for Lynn.
  • Cosenza and Keefe both had two goals.
  • Colin Casey had 21 saves on 39 shots.
