Thailand 2011: Back to the Future (Part 1) – By Chazz Woodson

Greetings from the future! I touched in Tokyo, Japan about an hour ago, and I’m about 13 hours ahead of you all back in real life. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to connect to the internet, which isn’t all bad, BUT I paid $6.00 to use Boingo, and I’m pretty sure that Boingo hasn’t had any problems connecting to my bank account. I guess I’ll find out later.
I think I missed you guys last week. Been on the move, and without internet at home. I had a great time in Manhattan, KS with the K-State club lax team. Awesome bunch of guys that are really working hard to move their program forward. From there I flew back to Miami for a 3 hour visit, and change of luggage, before heading to Pittsburgh, PA for a symposium sponsored by Educating Teens About HIV/AIDS, an organization that began as a high school project for 2005 Brown University graduate, Ms. Kezia Ellison. I was fortunate enough to be asked to present, along with Willie Colon from the Pittsburgh Steelers, to some really cool young men about decision making. Also met Evan Frazier who provided some great insight into how to set yourself up for success. I’m sure I’ll bring that up again at some point.
From Pittsburgh, I hit DC, and from DC I headed here to Tokyo. 13 hours of flying time, wasn’t quite as bad I as I anticipated. Fortunately I was in “economy plus” which afforded me 5 inches of extra leg room. My assigned seat is not as accommodating on this next leg, but I am going to see if upgrading is a possibility. I managed to pass the time the American way – TV. I watched a 2009 special called “As Seen on TV” which was pretty interesting. I watched …..
(INTERNET ACCESS! Maybe I’ll be able to get this blog out before I take off!)
…. So back to the story, I watched a special about Ancient Chinese tombs and such, one on the Bugatti Veyron which was awesome. Begs the question however … Why is it that we have such brilliant minds and amazing technology in the world, but we cannot figure out an answer to hunger/poverty/etc.? I watched two episodes of Family Guy, an episode of The Simpsons, The Office, and 30 Rock. I also managed to get some good movie time in … Green Lantern, Black Swan, X Men First Class (Though I fell asleep during that one, so maybe on the way back), and I think I watched one more.
I didn’t sleep half as much as I would have liked to, but I still made it. Unfortunately it’s 3:38a in real life, so I know that I’m gonna be way off track for the next couple of days. Last year when I came over, I slept pretty much all day the first day, and didn’t even realize it. I woke up a few times, thinking it was still early. I was finally woken up after everyone had gone out to lunch and to explore. Planning for that not to happen this time. We’ll see.
At any rate, I’m going to try and catch up on a bit of work while I still have some battery left. First move, Words of Wisdom email. Remember, if you’d like to join the list, simply contact me through ChazzWoodson.com with WoW in the subject!
be easy
God bless.
